The environmental impact of Amazon


As Amazon continues to grow at an alarming rate, so does its contribution to climate change. The company has been criticized in the past for its reliance on fossil fuels and emissions from its massive warehouses and distribution centers. And now, a new report shows that Amazon’s carbon footprint has increased by nearly 50% since 2015.

This is a troubling trend that could have serious consequences for the planet if not addressed soon. For one, it threatens to offset any progress made by other companies in reducing their own emissions. Additionally, it could make it harder for the world to meet its climate goals, as Amazon is now responsible for emitting more than 1% of global greenhouse gases.

This is despite the fact that Amazon has the resources and technology to be a leader in green business practices.

On the surface, it looks like Amazon is doing a lot to address its impact on the environment. To be sure, Amazon is taking some steps to offset its growing emissions footprint. But even if we take those offsets into account, the company’s overall climate impact is still going up. That’s why we can’t afford to be fooled by Amazon’s climate PR – we need to hold the company accountable for its growing environmental impact.
